Interview with Elliot Cooper, High School CEO of Coops Kicks

Coops Kicks is a Brooklyn, New York-based Instagram sneaker and streetwear retailer. It was founded by Elliot Cooper in 2017 (when he was 13 years old) with the aim to offer high-demand, limited-edition footwear. Coops Kicks has been an environmentally conscious company since its inception. Its goal is to maximize profit while achieving environmental and economic sustainability by recycling and redistributing new and used footwear.

Elliot Cooper teamed up with GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling group, to help minimize pollution from shoe waste – and launched a fundraising program. All the revenue generated from this program is earmarked to be donated to The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch-based nonprofit engineering environmental group that develops technologies to recover plastic trash from the oceans and intercept it in rivers before it reaches the sea.

Coops Kicks and Elliot Cooper have been recognized in prominent media publications such as Fox Chronicle, Crixeo, and Yahoo Finance.

Where did the idea for Coops Kicks come from?

The idea for Coops Kicks came from my love of sneakers and streetwear culture. It started as my hobby and ultimately turned into a profitable company.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

Obviously, because I am in high school I am not able to dedicate the hours needed to my company. My classes end at 4:30 PM. I then pick up the boxes from my house and deliver them to the shipping store. I post my inventory and answer messages from customers. I make sure to dedicate at least 30 minutes to my celebrity clientele. I usually end my day packing up items that were sold and placing them by the door for tomorrow’s delivery. After work, I study and hang out with friends (like a regular high-schooler).

What’s one trend that excites you?

Cryptocurrency for sure. Customer loyalty is extremely important in my business. I am in process of deploying a CoopsKicks digital token on Ethereum’s ERC20 blockchain. I am expecting this to increase customer loyalty and put me a step ahead of the competition.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I am not afraid to fail. I have found that I learn more from my failures than my successes. I think part of being an entrepreneur is learning to embrace failure.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Trust your gut. I missed many opportunities because of others’ negative energy. Listen to others, but don’t be afraid of taking the initiative. Your gut is smarter than you think!

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Persistence is key to success. You will encounter bumps in the road and it’s important not to be discouraged by large failures – small businesses can also grow when they have a strong leader with an understanding of customer service who knows how best to deal with these setbacks.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.

One strategy I have used to grow my business is by focusing on the customer experience. By doing this, it’s been easier for me and customers alike can easily make purchases without having any difficulties with their order or payment process.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I gave a homeless woman a $100 bill.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Instagram. Without it, I wouldn’t be in business.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

A Paperboy’s Fable. The 11 Principles of Success. It tells the story of a paperboy who became an entrepreneur. It was a great self-motivation tool for me.

What is your favorite quote?

“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”  – Babe Ruth, baseball legend
